I hiked up the relatively easy 4-mile trail from Vincent's Gap to the summit of Mount Baden-Powell. After fighting off a cold the past few days, I needed to get out in the mountains, but still wasn't feeling too great. I decided to take it easy and walk up very, very slowly, but without stopping. Less then a quarter mile from the summit, this stunted jeffrey pine stopped me in my tracks. The tree was too pretty to not spend a at least a few minutes photographing and admiring it before moving on. I love conifers, and a beautifuly gnarled jeffrey pine, growing in a rather unlikely spot on such a steep slope, backed by the highest peak in the San Gabrield Mountains was too good to pass up.
